Brucellosis Testing
A leading cause of infertility.
One of the leading causes of infertility in breeding animals is caused by a contagious disease called brucellosis. This zoonotic disease, caused by the bacterium Brucella canis, occurs worldwide and can affect all dogs, livestock, and even humans.
Brucellosis is mainly transmitted by direct contact of the mucus membranes of the genitals, eyes, nose, or mouth with infected bodily fluids such as semen, vaginal discharge, urine, and infected aborted material. Some clinical signs of infection in dogs include abortions, stillbirths, litter resorption, and severe testicular or prostate inflammation in males. Although this disease may cause severe clinical signs, some dogs may be asymptomatic carriers. For such reasons, we strongly recommend testing both the female and the male prior to every breeding.
Results can be obtained in 5-7 days. Brucellosis testing is recommended for every collection and freeze appointment.
